I’m of similar mind about the future of the hard problem and I think succession is likely happening no matter what we do. Leaning in to population ethics by way of Parfit and others is, to me, critical.
The work of Levinas and MacIntyre is also worth sharing in this realm. To instill the first principles of the value of the Other in our successors, before any other philosophy.
Using both essay/critique and fiction to help get complex ideas across is a personal interest of mine, and this was an extremely well-written example.
For whatever reason, At the Mountains of Madness is the only Lovecraft I have read, having picked an old copy off my dad's bookshelf as a teenager almost 20 years ago. Perhaps it was his recommendation. Perhaps it was the machine god.
Whenever I read people saying AI is 'mimicry', I consider whether humans are really so different (mimicry, fooled by biases and framing, being a bunch of subroutines acting as one).
